A New Microchip Technology

A team of Taiwanese scientists have unveiled an advanced microchip technology, which they claimed marks a breakthrough in storing ever more memory in to ever smaller spaces. The scientists said that they had succeeded in producing a circuit measuring just nine nanometres across (one nanometre is equal to one billionth of a metre). Till now, researchers believe that 20 nanometres was the limit for microchip technologies.

A chip using the new memory technology has about 20 times the memory units now available in the market. Further, it consumes just one 200th of the electricity that existing technologies require. It is worth mentioning here that the benefits of greater memory and reduced electricity consumption are highly sought in the manufacture and electronic gadgets like smart phones and table computers.
